Central Iowa Shelter and Services
Central Iowa Shelter and Services provides free shelter and meals to homeless adults regardless of physical or emotional conditions, and to facilitate their move toward self-sufficiency. Assist in preparing and serving meals, take a tour of the facility and complete a small work project.
Children and Family Urban Ministries
Children and Family Urban Ministries works in partnership with their neighbors to address the challenges and builds on the strengths of those living in north Des Moines. CFUM seeks to nurture lives and promote social and economic justice. Here you will prepare, serve and eat a meal with the children and families from the surrounding community. You also will be able to participate in after school activities with the children.

Freedom for Youth Ministries
Freedom for Youth Ministries offers the love of Jesus Christ to homeless and at risk youth. FYM empowers them to break bondages in their lives, discover their God given purpose and lead a life filled with faith, hope and love. Help with work projects, serve meals, hang out with the kids of the area and participate in different activities.
Joppa Outreach
Joppa Outreach is a non-profit organization that reaches the homeless in unique ways; in tents and shacks, in doorways and abandoned buildings, in cars and under bridges. Wherever unsheltered people are living, volunteers visit them weekly, building relationships, providing them with humanitarian aid and helping with specific needs. Go out to the homeless camps along the rivers and deliver goods to the residents. You can be the one who offers to pray and spends time with the homeless.
Reggie’s Place
The Iowa Homeless Youth Centers work to eliminate homelessness among children, youth and young mothers in Polk Country, IA. Reggie’s Place believes, with support and assistance, homeless individuals and families can live independently and attain self-sufficiency. We’ll go to the late night coffee house that offers youth a place to hangout in a safe environment. We will serve coffee and smoothies, and play games with the youth.
Serve Our Youth Network
Serve Our Youth Network equips an expanding network of congregations to provide high-risk youth with resources and relationships where God’s hope and healing are shared. You will tour the Polk Youth Detention Center and learn about the programs of Serve Our Youth.
Swahili Church Service
Join us at the Freedom for Youth Center for a Swahili church service. Join in on this unique service. The first hour will be full of praise, worship and prayer.
The Gardens at Luther Park
The Gardens at Luther Park is an assisted and catered living center. You’ll visit the dementia unit and participate in planned activities with residents. Activities include: reading, playing bingo or other games, cooking, walking outside or just visiting.
Trinity Methodist/ Las Americas
Trinity Methodist/ Las Americas is a multilingual and diverse church whose mission is to be a Christ centered, inclusive worship community whose love of God, creation and humankind is made visible through their peace and justice. Trinity Methodist serves its community through ESL and citizenship classes, daycare and community meals.
