Celebrate Recovery- New Community Church
At Celebrate Recovery, people who are seeking to overcome addictions find support in small groups and an opportunity to get to know God and His healing love and power. Ready for a powerful worship experience? After hearing about the ministry, we will break into small groups and you’ll hear stories of real people recovering from real addictions. A dessert will be served afterward.
Clancy Street Ministries
Clancy Street Ministries serves the Belknap neighborhood. They help empower people and build a healthier community through a variety of developmental programs. Once again, we’ll be working on different service projects with neighborhood children. We will have the chance to learn about Christian community development and what sustainable relational ministry looks like.
Guiding Light Mission
Guiding Light Mission exists to provide a healing community that allows broken individuals to discover a new life in Christ. They provide food and shelter while equipping men with social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual skills. We will serve the homeless meals and assist the Guiding Light Mission to do whatever tasks they need to accomplish, such as make beds, do laundry, organize supply closets or sort donated goods.
Heartside Ministry
Heartside Ministry has been a principal catalyst of positive change in the Heartside neighborhood for a quarter of a century. Their mission is to share faith, hope and life amidst those who are homelessness and in poverty. We’ll worship with many people who are homeless, people whom Jesus was very fond of.
Life International
Life International is an evangelical Christian organization that multiplies healthy life-giving ministries wherever abortion is provided worldwide. The primary purpose of these ministries is to see people come to new life in Christ and pre-born lives saved from abortion. We will return to their dorms to sleep overnight.
Messiah Missionary Baptist Church
Messiah Missionary Baptist Church is the oldest African American Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, founded in 1890. The ministries of Messiah are designed to support kingdom building, strengthen families, and meet the ever-growing needs of Christians in today’s culture.
Prayer Center
Prayer is a foundational component of Christ For the City International (CFCI), that’s why we’ve helped establish a Prayer Center in Grand Rapids. In Omaha where we are headquartered, we’ve mapped the ten highest crime areas in the city and are organizing churches to pray in those neighborhoods. In conjunction with leaders in the African American community, we have developed a team known as “First Responders.” These dedicated intercessors gather at every murder site within 24 hours and Prayer-Walk the neighborhood. As a result, homicides in Omaha have decreased nearly 50% during 2009, and violent areas are experiencing more peace. We’ll go on a 20 minute prayer walk through a neighborhood unlike the ones in which you live. As we debrief, we’ll challenge each Urban Plunger to consider prayer walking with a friend through their school or neighborhood.
World Mission
World Mission is sharing the Word of God to non-literate people throughout the world by providing them with an audio Bible, called The Treasure. World Mission provides missionary training and support to reach the “unreached.” They maintain a chain of thrift stores that help support their mission. We’ll be working at their distribution center sorting clothes, household goods, and recyclables. Your efforts have a double impact, in Grand Rapids and places like Eritea, Malawi, Mozambique and Burkina Faso.
