Foodnet- Zion Presbyterian

The Lincoln Foodnet program made up of a group of volunteers from many different churches and other non-profit organizations who are trying to stop the waste of food and provide for those in need. Foodnet provides mostly perishable foods such as fruits, vegetables, dairy products and bread, which are not usually supplied by food pantries. We will be volunteering with the Zion Presbyterian group to help organize and distribute the food.

Neighborhood Prayer Walking

We’ll go on a 20-30 minute prayer walk through a neighborhood that may be unlike ones in which you live. During the walk you will be asked to keep your eyes open to what God might be showing you and to pray about that. As we debrief, we’ll challenge each Urban Plunger to consider prayer walking through their school or neighborhood with a friends.

People’s City Mission

The People’s City Mission is one of Lincoln’s biggest providers of services to those in need. Their services include a shelter, meals for the hungry, free medical care, and clothing, food and household item distribution. We will be helping by sort donations, serving meals or doing whatever is needed most.

Reach Out Christian Center

The Reach Out Christian Center is focused on more than just having a church in Lincoln. The church desires to minister to a diverse group and meet the needs of hurting people. We will join them in worship on Sunday.

Skate the Edge

Skate the Edge is the only indoor skate park located in Lincoln. It is run by Campus Life and located next to Back to the Bible in the Northwest part of the city. Skate the Edge provides a safe positive environment for kids to skate, play pool, video games, or just hang out. They offer personal mentoring programs to help kids stay in school, learn life lessons, offer a sounding board for hurting kids, and weekly Bible studies. We will be building relationships while spending time with the youth playing video games and pool. Time will also be spent learning about the importance of ministering to youth in a non-threatening environment.

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church is where we will sleep overnight. Although we will not spend much time there, this is where we will return to every night. Bring your sleeping bag, pillows, towels and toiletries.

Tabitha Health Care Services

Tabitha Health Care Services provides compassionate older adult care through rehabilitation, home care, hospice, meals on wheels, adult day services and elder living options. During this part of the Plunge we will be visiting elders at Tabitha on Saturday afternoon. We will have opportunities to build relationships through scheduled activities.

The Gathering Place

The Gathering Place is a division of the Lincoln Action Program (LAP) which provides free hot meals Monday through Friday. The Gathering Place is located in the middle of Lincoln to meet the needs to the people who are located there. We will be sharing the love of Christ with these people in need while we dine and build relationship with them.
