Omaha Urban Plunge
Dive into Omaha’s inner-city located in the heartland of America. When you take the Plunge…. You will work with nine different faith-based ministries throughout the weekend. So, take a minute and meet the ministries…
Abide Network
Abide Network is a ministry located in North Omaha where 7 out of 10 residents meet the poverty line. In this bleak community, Abide focuses on four components of community development: leadership, network, resource, and research development. It also reaches out to the community and beyond through its pantry, a local church, and world missionaries to name a few. At Abide, you’ll take a tour of its historic building and learn about the ministry and the community that it serves.
Angels on Wheels
Angels on Wheels provides a critical link from the church to the streets and neighborhoods to minister to the lost, meet their physical needs, and connect them to long-term relationships built on Jesus. We will minister with Angels near at the Siena Francis House (a homeless shelter), the Gene Leahy Mall in downtown Omaha and the surrounding neighborhoods by serving food and praying for people.
Desert Ministries
Desert Ministries values the life and wisdom of the elderly by creating opportunities for people to serve those living and working in nursing homes. If you go on Urban Plunge 2, you will spend the afternoon talking, praying, playing bingo or even dancing with the residents.
Empty Tomb
Empty Tomb is a church like no other. The congregation consists of all different races, many homeless, and people from the surrounding community. On Sunday morning you will begin your day attending this bi-lingual service and afterward, fellowship with the congregation. You may even meet someone you talked to with Angels on Wheels on Friday night.
First Baptist Church
First Baptist Church is located on one of Omaha’s most notorious streets for prostitution and drug dealing; however, this only encourages the church to reach out to its community even more. Here, we will take time to learn about the neighborhood and the power of prayer and then take our turn to prayer walk though the surrounding neighborhoods.
Hope Center
The Hope Center is a “home away from home” for many youth ages 7-19 in the inner-city of Omaha. Known for increased violence, gang activity, low income families and high poverty rates, North Omaha is a very underserved portion of Omaha. The Hope Center provides a hot meal, recreation, mentoring and help with school work in a safe and warm environment. Spend Friday evening learning about the Hope Center and then skating with inner-city youth in the new skating rink.
Mission For All Nations
Mission For All Nations (MFAN) is a faith-based charitable organization founded to put love into action by providing food, clothing, shelter and other necessities to people of all ethnic backgrounds who are in need. Their homelessness and hunger prevention program supplies a food pantry order to provide nearly ½ a million meals to 22,500 needy individuals, making it the largest food pantry in the state of Nebraska. At MFAN, we’ll help sort out clothes and pack boxes of food for those in need. We may even do a little painting, too!
Open Door Mission
The Open Door Mission is a Gospel Rescue Mission that provides basic needs and life changing programs 24/7 to more than 300 people each day. It offers emergency temporary housing, long-tern rehabilitation, recovery and transitional housing as well as outreach to the community. Come learn and serve at this life changing ministry. After volunteering sit down with the homeless and strike up a conversation over your lunch or supper.
Release Ministries
Release Ministries reaches high risk youth in the Juvenile Justice System. Through prayer, Bible studies, and mentoring they restore hearts, repair homes and renew hope. Take a walk through the Douglas County Youth Jail with Chaplain Ron and learn about how God is using Release Ministries to restore the youth.
Salem Baptist Church
Salem Baptist Church is a Word-centered ministry designed to evangelize the lost, equip and empower the people of God, and provide a holistic ministry to their community as well as the world. Sunday morning you can attend the late service and clap and sing along with the Gospel choir.
